New Microsoft Mouse Runs its Own Version of Windows

With the release of the new Microsoft IntelliMouse, the Redmond company is furthering its plans to incorporate Windows into customer-level appliances.

"It's running Windows CE for Mice," said Hiam Clewless, the Microsoft executive in charge of misdirections. "This way, if the host PC is crashing, the mouse coordinate and clicking data will not be lost. Just reboot and continue where you left off."

Rather than depend on a stable base system, Microsoft admits that it is now heading in a direction where individual components maintain their own data integrity, and they will continue to devote more resources for developing flawless hardware rather than flawless software.

As if to spotlight the microscopic detail of their new ideology, it was admitted that the mouse's OS itself may crash.

"We're aware that Windows CE for Mice is as rickety as its siblings, and that's why we also wrote Windows CE for Mouse Cables," said Clewless.

And, indeed, imbedded in the mouse cable is its own operating system, which passes data from the mouse to the communications port.

"So, when the mouse crashes, the cable can still send the remaining X,Y data to the desktop system -- and also, if necessary, generate what it would consider to be new positional data interpolated by the last set of coordinates received -- until the user reboots the mouse."

Microsoft also revealed plans for its new keyboard, to be named the Microsoft InnovIntelliBoardKeys, wherein each key on the keyboard will be running its own version of Windows CE for Keypresses.

"And like the IntelliMouse," said Clewless, "you can slide it around your jeans and still keep typing. It's cool!"
