Gates: M2B Millionnium Bug Not So BadBill Gates, in an interview with SmattaU? magazine, said the conversion from Millions to Billions (M2B) of dollars isn't so bad, claiming that "it's only a minor inconvenience when balancing the checkbook."
Some millionaires are citing trouble with the extra zeros when their wealth goes beyond 9 digits. This "Millionnium bug" can affect calculations when incorrect figures are typed into spreadsheets and accounting software.
"Our [Microsoft's] products offer a solution to this problem. It's not as catastrophic as some people suggest," Gates said. He gave as an example Excel 2000: It allows users to check a box to tell the program that all figures represent billions of dollars (so the extra zeros can be left off).
"Some billionaires will have more problems than others with the arrival of 10 digits, but for most of us it will only be a minor inconvenience," he said. "If you haven't learned how to handle all of those commas, the time to start is now, otherwise you'll really be lost when you hit the trillion mark."
