Microfits Salutes Bug-Free Daylight Savings Time Check

Twice a year, most people in the States witness what is otherwise ignored by the media, and so Microfits volunteers to spotlight and give credit where credit is due: Windows executed a flawless check for daylight savings time.

Now, we don't know who this person is who wrote this fine piece of code, but we salute you. I mean, obviously you weren't allowed to be involved with the rest of Windows' stabilization, evidenced by my need later in the day to reboot the computer several times, but that's okay, let's not dwell on that, nor on its failure to recognize my plug and play device, requiring yet another reboot.

No, I'll not stray from the point. The clock was successfully reset, and on I went to tell the Explorer window for the zillionth time to show me file details. I mean, it'd take two lines of code to save and recall the setting, but hey, they must have been busy that day on the daylight savings thing (good job on that, by the way).

Also, let's not dwell on the tiny, unresizeable window that's offered for a File, Open operation when my monitor's doing 1024 by 768 on a 21-inch screen and the directory has 1,500 files in it and the one I want is 300 scrolls over.

I won't be petty.

Nor would I mention that my computer suffers a big hit whenever I'm forced to install a Microsoft product and it feels like replacing any old system file with whatever it deems fit without asking permission. I mean, it's my damn computer, right?!!

None the less. Someone obviously went through great, uncredited pains to incorporate a simple, perfect timer in the calendar code, which reminds me of the "Easter egg" crap hidden in because Microsoft doesn't want to allow its employees to have open credit in the About box like every other software company does.

But I digress. We should pause, recognize, and applaud, in the morass of mediocre, bug-ladened, overpriced, monopoly-protected bloatware known as a Microsoft product, this one small diamond in their typical pile of trademarked horse dung.

Our heartiest congratulations to you.

Just as an FYI: there is a bug in Window's daylight savings time for 2000. Next year, daylight savings time starts April 1st. But because of some glitch in the code, Windows won't reset the date until the 8th. April fools!
